Abstrac
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the characteristics of patients with Gustilo-Anderson Type III open tibial fractures treated at a tertiary care hospital in São Paulo between January 2013 and August 2014.
CONCLUSION:
The profile of patients with open tibial fracture of Gustilo and Anderson Type III mainly involved young male individuals who were victims of motorcycle accidents. The tibial shaft was the segment most affected. Only 7% of the patients underwent amputation. Given the current controversy in the literature about amputation or salvage of severely injured lower limbs, it becomes necessary to carry out prospective studies to support clinical decisions.
Resumen
OBJETIVO:
Para analizar las características de los pacientes con fracturas abiertas de tibia Gustilo-Anderson Tipo III tratados en un hospital de tercer nivel en Sao Paulo entre enero de 2013 y agosto de 2014.
CONCLUSIÓN:
El perfil de los pacientes con fractura de tibia abierta de Gustilo y Anderson Tipo III involucrado principalmente a hombres jóvenes que fueron víctimas de accidentes de motocicleta. La diáfisis tibial fue el segmento más afectado. Sólo el 7% de los pacientes fueron sometidos a la amputación. Dada la actual controversia en la literatura acerca de la amputación o salvar los miembros inferiores con lesiones graves, se hace necesario realizar estudios prospectivos para apoyar las decisiones clínicas.
